If you’re active in any online bookish communities, then you’ve probably seen several book-to-movie/TV adaptation announcements on your timeline recently. I can certainly speak for myself and the ladies at Literary Lane Bookshop when I say we are very excited to see some of our favourite characters and stories come to life.
For those of you who haven’t been online lately, I’ve rounded up 5 romance authors with adaptations in the works…
Elsie Silver - Chestnut Springs Series & Rose Hill Series
That’s right, starting with a bang, Netflix has landed the rights to Elsie Silver’s beloved Chestnut Springs series. That means our Eaton boys (and yes, that obviously includes Jasper and Theo) and their ladies will be coming to our screens, and we can finally visualise every juicy scene.
So far, announcements have primarily focused on the production crew, with Hannah Schneider (producer and writer of The Waterfront) set to adapt, alongside Shawn Levy (Stranger Things, Shadow & Bone) as executive producer.
News of this adaptation followed an already very exciting announcement that Prime Video (Amazon MGM Studios) would be adapting the Rose Hill Series. Elsie Silver herself is set to take on the role of executive producer for this series, and we couldn’t be more thrilled for her!
There aren’t many more details known to the public as of yet, but if My Life With The Walter Boys and The Summer I Turned Pretty are anything to go by, then we can expect big things to come.
Brynne Weaver - Butcher & Blackbird
On June 27th, it was announced that book one in the Ruinous Love Trilogy, Butcher and Blackbird, would be getting a movie adaptation! Lyrical Media and Ryder Picture Company snatched up this BookTok bestseller, with Chris McKay (The Lego Batman Movie) set to direct.
This adaptation is a little further ahead than Silver's, in terms of production, with the completed script already written. However, we are yet to receive a formal release date or any casting announcements.
Some popular fan casts have included Aaron Taylor-Johnson or Paul Mescal as Rowan, and Adelaide Kane or Sophie Thatcher as Sloane, so here's to hoping for those!
Kennedy Ryan - Before I Let Go
Okay, there are very few details about this as of right now, but we couldn't not mention it! Kennedy Ryan's emotional romance novel, Before I Let Go, has been picked up by Peacock and Universal TV.
Although that is pretty much the extent of what we know right now, we are just happy to see such a deserving book and author get their moment!
This book follows Yasmen and Josiah through their emotional journey with divorce, co parenting and running a business together. Despite everything, they keep being drawn back to one another and have to decide whether a second chance could make them or break them all over again... I have my popcorn bucket and tissues ready for this one.
Ali Hazelwood - The Love Hypothesis
Okay you'll be pleased to know that I actually have some news to report on this one! Though we don't have an exact release date just yet, The Love Hypothesis is expected to premier sometime in 2026. So we don't have to wait too long to see Adam & Olive on our screens!
Speaking of... We have casting information for this book-to-movie adaptation! Female lead role of Olive Smith is being played by none other than THE Lily Reinhart!!! Yup, you heard me. And if that wasn't exciting enough, the male lead will be played by... Tom Bateman!
The casting directors really hit the nail on the head with this movie. I'm going to be fawning over both characters and I can't wait to see their chemistry (STEM-pun intended ;)) come to life.
Emily Henry - People We Meet on Vacation, Book Lovers, Beach Read, Happy Place & Funny Story
Sorry, was that one? No. Two, three? FIVE BOOK TO MOVIE ADAPTATIONS?!?!?! Yup, it's a big win for Emily Henry fans out there. We are officially getting an entire EmHen cinematic universe and we couldn't be happier about it.
Here's a quick speedrun of what we know so far...
The People We Meet on Vacation is currently in production with Tom Blyth and Emily Bader playing the lead roles of Alex and Poppy *chefs kiss*. This feature film is set to release on January th 2026.
Book Lovers doesn't have quite as much public information available right now, but we do know that the rights were picked up by Tango who are set to develop and produce this book as a feature film.
Beach Read was picked up by 20th Century Studios with Yulin Kuang to both write and direct the movie.
Happy Place is actually being adapted into a TV series with Netflix, under Jennifer Lopez's Nuyorican Productions (jaw-dropped). No casting has been announced yet and the release date is also TBD.
Finally, Funny Story has an incredible team of people behind it including Alexander Black and Natalie Sellers from Lyrical Media, as well as Aaron Ryder and Andrew Swett from RPC all set to produce the movie. This one is extra special however, as Emily Henry herself is writing the script for this adaptation and I can't wait to see how she does!
There are definitely more book-to-movie/TV adaptations coming, and more to be announced I would imagine, these are just a few that we are particularly excited for here at Literary Lane Bookshop!
